The Yamhill Hazelnut Tree is a newer type of Hazelnut that was developed at Oregon State University and released in 2008. It is very appealing with commercial growers as it has complete resistance to eastern filbert blight and is extremely productive in its nut yield. Along with its high productivity, the Yamhill Hazelnut Tree also ripens and is ready for harvest earlier in the season than its comparable varieties as well as yielding kernels with very few defects. With a compact and spreading grown habit, Yamhill Hazelnut Trees produce flowers in late December that remain a red color until early in February. These trees and kernels are somewhat small but are more pest resistant than most Hazelnut trees and with excellent kernel quality, are most appropriate for baking. Yamhill Hazelnut Trees thrive in USDA zones 5-8 and can reach a height of 120 in. with a spread of 144 in.
