Stately and formal as sheared hedges, or rugged and charming left to grow naturally, Densiformis Yews are a fabulous base specimen in any garden. Yews are so easy to care for that you’ll want more than one or two. Mass-plant them in a shady area, or place strategically in a rose garden or other full-sun location. These pair well with azaleas and rhododendrons, or of course, rose bushes, as well as many other plants.

These are wonderful plants to use as soft screens or borders, in addition to their typical use as foundation shrubs. Consider planting them in a curved shape to make a peaceful statement with a garden bench or water feature. Make sure to plant in well-drained soil. While yews are widely adaptable, they don’t like wet feet.

Pruning need only be done once a year, just after the first new spring growth. Leave your Densiformis Yew widest at its base and narrower at the top to keep it green throughout. Reaching 4 feet in height and 4-6 feet in width, this yew is best suited for growing zones 4-7.

  • This yew is a shade-loving, versatile evergreen also happily growing in full to partial sun.
  • The Densiformis Yew grows slow, low, and wide but responds well to trimming. Let it grow naturally for a softer, less structured look.
  • Beautiful, dark green foliage with scarlet berries attracts birds and provides year-round cover for your feathered friends.
  • This plant is ideal for many different uses in landscape besides foundation planting.
  • The Densiformis Yew is low-maintenance, tolerant to rabbits, pollution, and salt air.
