PLANT & TREE CARE

PREPARING TO PLANT
Step 1
Before Planting
Make sure to soak the roots in water for at least 60 minutes. This helps hydrate the tree or shrub and gives it the best start in its new spot.
Step 2
Location Choice
Start by choosing a well-drained spot with no standing water. Trees do best in full sun, while young shrubs prefer afternoon shade. Also, make sure the location is easy to water, ideally with access to a garden hose, to keep your tree hydrated.
Step 3
Prepare the Soil
Use a shovel to dig a hole just deep enough to cover the roots and make sure the tree’s graft union is level with the ground. The hole should be about twice as wide as the root ball.
- For trees, the hole should be about 18 inches deep and 18-24 inches wide.
- For 1-gallon shrubs, the hole should be about 12 inches deep and 12 inches wide.
Loosen the soil at the bottom of the hole to help the roots grow and get nutrients.
Step 4
Unwrap your plant!
Start by choosing a well-drained spot with no standing water. Trees do best in full sun, while young shrubs prefer afternoon shade. Also, make sure the location is easy to water, ideally with access to a garden hose, to keep your tree hydrated.
