The Semi-Dwarf Veteran Peach Tree (Prunus persica ‘Veteran’) is a cold-hardy, highly productive fruit tree known for its reliable crops, flavorful yellow peaches, and compact orchard-friendly size. Veteran produces medium to large peaches with golden-yellow skin, a light red blush, and juicy yellow flesh that becomes freestone when fully ripe. The fruit has a rich, classic peach flavor and is especially well suited for fresh eating, canning, freezing, baking, drying, pies, cobblers, and homemade preserves.
One of Veteran’s biggest advantages is its late spring bloom, which can help reduce damage from early frosts compared with earlier-flowering peach varieties. The tree is also self-fertile, so a single tree can produce fruit without another peach nearby.
Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8, this semi-dwarf peach grows best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and good air circulation. Mature trees typically reach around 10–14 feet tall and 10–12 feet wide, creating a manageable size for backyard orchards and edible landscapes. With its cold hardiness, dependable production, and versatile fruit, Veteran is an excellent peach tree for home growers
